Introducción
La enfermedad valvular crónica (EVC) es una cardiopatía frecuente en el perro, pudiendo llegar a representar hasta el 75% de los casos de fallo cardiaco congestivo (FCC). La EVC también se conoce como “enfermedad valvular degenerativa”, “degeneración valvular crónica”, “enfermedad valvular mixomatosa” o “endocardiosis”, haciendo referencia a la deformación y engrosamiento progresivo de las valvas de las válvulas cardiacas. Las valvas mitrales se afectan con mayor frecuencia, pero también puedenobservarse alteraciones en las valvas de la válvula tricúspide.
