This presentation will focus on some of the most outstanding differences between horses and other species regarding gastrointestinal tract (GIT) physiology. Understanding the special characteristics of equine GI physiology can provide insight into optimal nutritional management as well as the mechanisms that underlie system dysfunction. For each anatomical regions of the GI tract, anatomy, secretion, digestion, motility and/or absorption will be emphasized depending on its specific unique feature.
