Infectious diseases involving the upper respiratory tract of horses are a common medical entity. Equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1), EHV-4, equine influenza virus (EIV) and Streptococcus equi ssp. equi are among the most common pathogens recognised with infectious upper respiratory tract disease (IURD).
