Prepubic tendon (PPT) ruptures are a life-threatening condition of the mare in late gestation [1]. They should ideally be differentiated from abdominal wall (AW) ruptures or hernias; however, differentiating the two conditions is not always clinically possible. They may be categorised together as body wall defects. The abdominal wall is made up of the external and internal abdominal oblique muscles and their aponeuroses, the transversus abdominis and rectus abdominis muscles.
