Los tumores costales son infrecuentes. El osteosarcoma (OSA) es el tumor costal más común y representa el 73% del total de tumores costales. Otros tipos de tumores costales son el condrosarcoma (CSA), el fibrosarcoma (FSA), el hemangiosarcoma (HSA) y el lipoma infiltrativo. No hay predisposiciones de raza ni de sexo, pero los tumores costales tienden a observarse en perros de razas grandes.
Técnicas de diagnóstico por imagen
Los tumores costales suelen aparecer en el tercio distal de la costilla adyacente a la unión costocondral. Una masa firme y fija palpable es el signo inicial más común, aunque también se ha descrito dolor y disnea. Las alteraciones radiológicas son lisis, esclerosis o una mezcla de patrones líticos y blásticos, con desplazamiento de las costillas adyacentes y estructuras intratorácicas, como el corazón y los pulmones, y desplazamiento medial de la pleura parietal que da lugar a un signo extrapleural (Fig. 1). La extensión intratorácica y la invasión del pericardio adyacente y los lóbulos pulmonares son relativamente comunes.
