Abstract
Melatonin( MLT) plays central roles in a wide range of body functions in mammals,
and the actions are mediated by the specific cell surface receptor, the melatonin receptor 1
(MTl) and melatonin receptor 2( MT2), To better understand the role of MT in yak( Eos grunniens), we first determined the expression level of melatonin receptor. mRNA analysis revealed that MT was higher expressed in pineal gland than in hypothalamus, pituitary gland and ovary (P < O. 01) during breeding season. Immunofluorescence analyses indicated that yak MT located in pinealocyte, synaptic ribbon( SR) and synaptic spherules ( SS) of pineal gland and melatonin interact themselves through nerve fiber. In hypothalamus, MT located in magnocellular neurons and parvicellular neurons. Acidophilic cells and basophilic cells were the location of MT in pituitary gland. In ovary, MT located in ovarian follicle, corpus luteum and Leydig'st cells.
