Approccio basato sull’evidenza
L’ideale è che le raccomandazioni relative all’alimentazione dei cani diabetici siano basate sull’evidenza, cioè su dati ottenuti attraverso i risultati di prove cliniche controllate e randomizzate che documentino chiaramente il significativo valore clinico della dieta di prova. Ogni volta che tali dati mancano, bisogna valutare le migliori prove disponibili ed interpretarle alla luce dell’ esperienza clinica e della conoscenza dei concetti fisiopatologici correnti. Per favorire questo processo, nella rassegna che segue, le evidenze sono state distinte in categorie (Tabella 2):
1. Prove cliniche controllate e randomizzate in cani diabetici.
2. Altre prove cliniche in cani diabetici.
3. Prove cliniche controllate e randomizzate in cani non diabetici.
4. Opinione di esperti, esperienza clinica e presupposti teorici fisiopatologici.
