Key information
Surgery, routine husbandry practices and other procedures, no matter how invasive, are all potential causes of pain and distress for the small ruminants involved in our research programs. Provision of appropriate analgesia and anesthesia for these animals can be complicated by project-specific requirements, study endpoints, ruminant physiology and off-label drug use. Fellow listserv members were asked to send their questions, challenging cases, and difficult experimental designs in order to create a webinar that addresses real life examples. This presentation focuses on finding approaches to get the right balance of analgesic and anesthetic agents while working within the limitations of specific research goals. In addition to responding to the topics submitted, practical surgical tips and perioperative advice are also included.
