PANEL DISCUSSION DESCRIPTION
The pre-purchase examination (PPE) is a very specific and demanding type of assessment, with the aim to determine if a particular horse will be able to perform a certain type of work/competition, at a certain level or if the horse will be suitable for resale. The challenge of the vet’s job consists of having to assess the horse without any or with a very sparse history, to comprehensively evaluate the risk of a purchase and provide the client with full insight and advice on future management of the horse.
With a multitude of stakeholders involved, who might be based in different countries/geographical regions, things can go horribly wrong. Buyers, sellers, treating vets, trainers, grooms, farriers, vets performing the PPE, shippers, insurance companies and lawyers are amongst the many stakeholders involved.
The panel consisting of 4 internationally renowned sports horse veterinarians with decades of PPE experience will discuss how they deal with the multitude of involved stakeholders, performing the steps of a conventional PPE and under what circumstanced they might recommend additional diagnostic/imaging investigations. They will furthermore exchange notes on tips, tricks and pitfalls in regard to history acquisition, the physical exam, dynamic evaluation, assessment under tack, taking x-rays, ultrasonography, upper airway endoscopy, gastroscopy, other types of imaging, blood work, objective gait evaluation and shoeing assessment.
Panel Discussion Registration Process: Once you have registered and upon payment, you will receive the link to access the on-demand recording for a period of 8 weeks.
