Neuromuscular blockers and relaxants are utilized rarely in veterinary patients for difficult intubation, certain ophthalmic and neurologic procedures, orthopedic repair, muscle relaxation and even certain respiratory tract procedures. Knowledge of drugs used, mechanisms, types (depolarizing and non-depolarizing) as well as indications, monitoring of adequacy of blockade, and most importantly, assurance of analgesia, ventilation and oxygenation, as well as reversal need/potential and drugs utilized is discussed.
