Key information
Develop your knowledge and understanding of hospitalization and nursing care in horses. This is a one-part course that can also be taken as part of the Equine critical care course bundle.
This module looks at monitoring, nursing care and analgesia in hospitalized horses, including:
Monitoring – basic monitoring, peripheral pulses, capillary refill time, packed cell volume, total protein, biochemistry and hematology, electrocardiograph, blood gases, and level of comfort/pain.
Nursing care – nutrition, medications, analgesia care of veins, fluid therapy, evaluation for ileus, bedding and environment, bandaging and casts.
Analgesia – systemic and regional.
