Develop your knowledge and understanding of cardiogenic shock in dogs. This is a one-part course that can also be taken as part of the Canine shock course bundle.
This module looks at pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of cardiogenic shock in dogs, including:
- Cause – associated with decreased cardiac output, primary determinants of cardiac output are heart rate and stroke rate.
- Signs – exercise intolerance, weakness, syncope or collapse, mental depression, pale mucous membrane, delayed capillary refill time, weak to absent pulse quality and hypotension, cardiac dysrhythmias, tachycardia, cackles on thoracic auscultation, heart murmur, tachypnea, respiratory distress, muffled heart or lung sounds, pulse deficits, cyanosis, jugular venous distension, ascites.
- Treatment – initial symptomatic treatment, subsequent management.
