Key information
Description
Ophthalmic emergencies can be difficult to manage in first opinion practice, treatment and diagnostic decisions need to be made promptly and delays can cause irreversible damage to the eye. This one-day course will cover various types of ocular emergencies which may be encountered in first opinion practice, and discuss practical tips on how to manage these cases, when to refer, what can be done until referral is arranged and what happens after the case has been referred.
The course will also cover ophthalmic conditions which are not typically recognised as ocular emergencies in first opinion practice (diabetic cataracts, juvenile cataracts, corneal ulcers in brachycephalic breeds). Ample time for questions and answers about everything involving ophthalmology will be included.
Topics to be covered include:
- Lens luxation
- Glaucoma
- Proptosis
- Ocular foreign bodies
- Acute onset blindness
- Uveitis
- Melting corneal ulcers
