To monitor brucellosis in Belgium, farmers are required to report each ruminant abortion to the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC). Besides brucellosis monitoring, the abortion program concurrently screens the submitted samples for several infectious pathogens. Despite the extensive number of analyses included in this abortion program, about 60% of cases remain undiagnosed.
