Practical CPD is making a comeback! We are excited to share with you our programme for 2021, be it with some alterations as we adjust to the new normal. The Education Committee talk us through what to expect.

The BEVA team loves a challenge and COVID-19 has definitely given the CPD team a work out! Thankfully we managed to run nine courses before COVID-19 fully struck the UK, with our new and very popular ‘Imaging For PPE’ course in February being the first to feel the effect of COVID-19. But determination and technology came to the rescue and we were able to live stream Paul Robinson from the Hong Kong Jockey Club to Yorkshire.

BEVA CPD 1, COVID 0.

Sadly, the score sheet from March onwards was more in COVID-19’s favour. But October saw the return of our first practical CPD day. Fundamentals of Equine Emergencies was fully booked and went ahead successfully and safely at Pool House Equine Clinic.

COVID-19 has also given us the opportunity to develop new ways of keeping in touch with our members with our new informal monthly live Clinical Catch-ups which are increasingly popular.

We’re also running a new section of online courses on Wound Management and Pain Management. This is hugely exciting as these courses are more accessible to those with limited time and budgets for travel and CPD (for example practice partners and those with families) and it also opens up our CPD to our international members.

Looking forward into 2021 it is increasingly clear that COVID-19 and its effects will be around for a while yet. But we believe it is more essential than ever to ensure practical CPD isn’t forgotten, particularly for new graduates who have had seeing practice and teaching disrupted in the last year and are likely feeling increasingly isolated.

The good news; we’ve got a packed practical CPD calendar planned and we’re working on using more online tools and resources to keep the practical days as flexible as possible so we can ensure our courses can run in a safe, COVID-secure environment.

All our venues and courses are required to comply with local and national restrictions and to keep everyone as safe as we can all those attending courses must sign a COVID-19 health disclaimer.

We are very aware of the rapidly changing circumstances and we don’t want people to attend if they shouldn’t, so, if anyone is unable to attend for a COVID-19 related reason, their fee will be held in credit for a year to be used against any other BEVA course. If we have to cancel or postpone a course due to COVID-19 then all delegates will be offered the chance of a full refund or a place on the next course date.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you all over the coming months - lockdowns allowing and at a socially acceptable distance of course! It’s been far too long!
