In the last 20 years over 20 million humans have died in disasters worldwide and property damage has exceeded $500 billion (Wingfield). Efforts at disaster management and mitigation have begun to focus on the implication for animals and their owners, both companion and livestock, and veterinary disaster management is an emerging speciality both in the developed and the developing world.
