I was asked to provide my thoughts and opinions on hoof care and foot problems from the perspective of a former horse shoer, horse owner, and educator/investigator/clinician. Specifically to address, from a personal perspective, the past, present and hoped for efforts regarding the art and science of trimming and shoeing horses. My presentation will be opinion, experience, and speculation; ergo, I am offering no references or justification of statements. Further it is important to note that such thoughts and opinions reflect that which I have experienced in North America and to a lesser degree Europe.
