Objectives:
This case report describes the first evidence of a Theileria orientalis outbreak in a dairy cattle herd in the Italian Alps. The transmission of bovine theileriosis is mainly associated with the introduction of infected asymptomatic animals in naïve populations and the simultaneous presence of infesting arthropods. Iatrogenic transmission via contaminated needles has also been described as a possible route of transmission, even if it has never been demonstrated.
