Einleitung
Die chronische Herzklappenerkrankung (chronic valvular di sease, CVD) ist eine häufig auftretende erworbene Herzerkrankung bei Hunden und kann bei dieser Spezies für bis zu 75% aller Fälle einer kongestiven Herzinsuffizienz (congestive heart failure, CHF) verantwortlich sein. Die auch als „degenerative Herzklappenerkrankung“, „myxomatöse Klappenerkrankung“ oder „Endokardiose“ bezeichnete chronische Herzklappenerkrankung verursacht eine fortschreitende Verdickung und Deformation der Klappensegel, wobei die Mitralklappe am häufigsten betroffen ist. In vielen Fällen einer Mitralklappenerkrankung sind ähnliche Veränderungen auch an der Trikuspidalklappe zu finden.
