    Einleitung

    Die intelligente und konsequente Anwendung der Grundsätze der Präventivmedizin im Rahmen der Parasitenkontrolle ist einer der wichtigsten Beiträge des tierärztlichen Berufsstandes zur Weltgesundheit und trägt darüber hinaus zum Erhalt einer positiven Mensch-Tier-Bindung bei. Wenn es um das Thema Parasitologie geht, sind Tierärzte wohl die weltweit am besten ausgebildeten Fachleute im Gesundheitsbereich. Da Parasiten bei unseren Kleintieren ein sehr weites Spektrum an Erkrankungen hervorrufen, kann dieses Thema nicht im Rahmen einer einzigen Diskussion abgehandelt werden. Zu den klassischen Symptomen, die gelegentlich parasitären Ursprungs sein können, gehören Erbrechen, Diarrhoe, Atembeschwerden und Herzerkrankungen, aber auch Hautprobleme, wie zum Beispiel bei der allergischen Flohstichdermatitis und bei der Räude, um nur einige wenige zu nennen. Die Komplexität und die Vielfältigkeit von Parasiten so wie ihre mannigfaltigen Einflüsse auf die Tiergesundheit machen die Parasitologie zu einer Herausforderung – in jeder Situation. Die Aufgabe des praktischen Tierarztes besteht nun unter anderem darin, diese Thematik soweit zu vereinfachen, dass die Tierhalter in der Lage sind, die Folgen eines unkontrollierten Befalls für ihre Tiere, aber auch für ihre Familien zu verstehen.
