- Les examens de laboratoire d’évaluation de la fonction hépatique explorent généralement certains aspects du rôle du foie dans le métabolisme intermédiaire. Une bonne connaissance des fonctions de base du foie aidera à interpréter les résultats de ces examens.
- En cas de suspicion d’hépatopathie, l’évaluation minimale doit inclure une numération formule, un bilan biochimique, une analyse d’urine et une coproscopie (par flottation).
- Une radiographie abdominale doit être réalisée chez tout animal suspect d’hépatopathie. D’autres examens de laboratoire et d’imagerie (ex. échographie) pourront être envisagés suite aux résultats des examens précédents.
- Les hépatopathies aiguës et chroniques peuvent s’accompagner de multiples autres anomalies dont l’hyperammoniémie, l’augmentation des acides biliaires, l’accumulation de métaux lourds et des coagulopathies.
