De nombreux propriétaires de chats considèrent les vomissements ou diarrhées de leur animal comme normaux ; certains clients peuvent même ne pas en parler alors qu’on leur demande s’il y a quelque chose de particulier à signaler ! Mais vu les nombreuses causes possibles de signes digestifs chroniques (1-3), il est important de demander précisément aux propriétaires s’il existe des vomissements ou de la diarrhée, d’en décrire les caractéristiques comme la fréquence, l’aspect et la consistance, et de préciser les soins prodigués. Il est également important d’évaluer la pertinence des examens diagnostiques à réaliser (bilan sanguin, échographie, par exemple). Cet article étudie la prévalence des vomissements et des diarrhées chroniques chez le chat adulte aux Etats-Unis.
