Introduzione
La sindrome della dilatazione gastrica (volvolo) (GDV, Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus) è una condizione pericolosa per la vita, che richiede diagnosi tempestiva e trattamento immediato. Sebbene siano stati segnalati casi anche nei gatti, sono i cani a presentare più spesso questa condizione che comporta distensione gassosa dello stomaco in associazione con la sua rotazione lungo l’asse longitudinale. Storicamente, il tasso di mortalità della condizione era considerato alto; diversi studi hanno stabilito valori del 15%-68% (1-5) ma con una comprensione migliore della condizione si spera che in futuro la morbilità e la mortalità saranno ridotte.
