The dog and cat left lung has cranial and caudal parts. In turn, the left cranial lung has cranial and caudal portions. The right lung has four lobes: cranial, intermediate, caudal and accessory. The accessory lobe is dorsal to the caudal vena cava and the plica vena cava. The trachea has two main bronchi, which in turn divide into lobar bronchi that supply air to the lung lobes. Inside each lung lobe, lobar bronchi divide into segmentary bronchi and then the subsegmentary bronchi, terminal bronchi, respiratory bronchi and, finally, the alveolar ducts and alveolar sacs.
