Evaluation of 49 Animals with a History of Lameness, Treated on a Dairy Farm in the Municipality of Rio das Flores-Río de Janeiro-Brazil

The study includes the analysis and interpretation of data collected during the clinical evaluation of 49 animals with 91 diseased claws, on a dairy farm located in the municipality of Rìo de las Flores, in the state of Río de Janeiro-Brazil. A media of 1.8 affected limbs for each cow were identified with 87 % of the lesions in the rear limbs and 13 % in front limbs. Horn lesions had an incidence of 54 %, while skin lesions were found in 42% of the cases (digital and interdigital dermatitis). There were 4 % lesions of the bones, ligaments and joints. The dairy farm has 120 lactating cows of a total of 200 Holstein cows ( Bos Taurus Taurus) and its crosses with the Gir ( Bos Taurus indicus) with a crossing degree ranging from half cross to seven eights with a daily production of 2300 liters of milk.
