To prevent these problems, milking cows are foot bathed in most Dutch dairy herds with formalin 4%, but this has harmful effects on health and environment. A new product, Digiderm+ (2% DigiDerm+ 2% Copper sulphate), has been tested in comparison with formalin 4%, during a 4 months clinical trial with a split-leg footbath, on both the preventive and the curative effects against ulcerative DD, on a commercial 120 dairy cow herd.
