Biotin, zinc and manganese play a key role of a good quality keratin and intercellular cement between the horn cells (Tomlinson et al., 2004). The production of good quality keratin and intercellular cement ensures that the claw horn is stronger and the horn cells are more tightly attached to each other and therefore the risk of damage such as white line disorders is greatly reduced (Pötzsch et al., 2003). With good provision, better quality skin is formed in the ball area, which means that infections such as Mortellaro are less likely (Gomez et al., 2015).
