The following pages will help you narrow down your search for the right match, whether you’re trying to decide how to proceed with relief or part-time work, or you’re an owner or manager who needs to get the help you need. First is a section about the pros and cons of relief and part-time work. That’s followed by a set of self-assessment quizzes for owners and managers. From there, you can proceed to the parts of the book that are most pertinent to your situation.
As you read each section, you will find information that is geared toward part-timers, toward relievers, and toward employers. Much of the information is applicable to all readers. In many chapters we’ve chosen to group the information based on the context rather than the person. That is, we discuss part-time work from both the part-timer’s and employer’s view, then we discuss relief work from both the reliever’s and employer’s view. Sometimes we discuss an issue from “everyone’s” point of view, as in the section describing independent contractor status. Each person can benefit from “standing in the other’s shoes,” so to speak, so do read all the segments for the best understanding.
This workbook is not a cookbook that will guarantee your success. The book needs input from you before you will realize its ultimate benefit. It is only of value to those who read and then act. So, gather up a pencil and paper before you settle in to read.
The materials and forms contained herein have been helpful for the authors. Use them as a basis for working with your attorney and creating your own contracts, forms, and letters that will allow you to perform your business more efficiently. This workbook package includes copies of forms and letters and the right to modify and use them, in whole or in part, as needed for and limited to the individual purchaser’s job. To use the forms in this book, re-type them on your own letterhead, inserting specific information that applies to your situation and modifying them based on advice from your accountant and attorney.
