Introduction

One of the key elements to integrating behavioural medicine into everyday small animal practice is ensuring that those handling animals have the ability to recognise postural and facial signs of change in emotional state in their patients, and can respond to them appropriately. This lecture will predominantly involve the illustration and discussion of the common behavioural signs shown by dogs and cats associated with negative emotional states, so that nurses are able to identify and react appropriately to these when handling their patients.
