Introduction:
Limited information on (contrast) radiography and ultrasonography of the esophagus of normal horses is available. This can make the interpretation of subtle changes such as stasis or variation in anatomic conformation in horses with oesophageal disease difficult.

Aim of the study: The purpose of this study is to describe the normal radiographic and ultrasonographic appearance of the esophagus in healthy horses.

Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 10 horses without history of esophageal disease. The esophagus was examined by 8 different (contrast) radiographic and ultrasonographic protocols.
