One of the major causes of back pain in the canine population is intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration(1). Prostaglandins exert a negative effect on disc matrix homeostasis and induce pain(2). It is known that COX-2 is the rate-limiting step in the synthesis of prostaglandin E2(3). COX-2 inhibition could be a good therapeutic strategy to reduce pain and inhibit the process of degeneration(4).
