Introduction
The heels are the most elastic part of the hoof and are therefore of uttermost importance for the hoof mechanism. The hoof expansion during the stance phase reduces concussion at impact and pumps blood into the hoof. This mechanism is influenced when nailing a shoe under a hoof.
