Introduction
Colic is basically the general manifestation of abdominal pain and reflects pathology of one or more of the abdominal organs. The large majority of cases relate to alimentary tract disease but occasionally important causes of colic derive from infection or calculus in the urinary tract involving the renal pelvis, ureter, bladder or urethra. In pregnant mares uterine conditions including uterine torsion may also be a cause of abdominal pain.
