Nasal oxygen catheters can be an effective method of administering oxygen to patients. it can be a more cost effective method then using an oxygen tent, flow by or oxygen hood as it will require less oxygen. Between 500ml/min and 1litre/min can create oxy- gen concentrates of between 40%-50%. Bilateral nasal oxygen catheters can be placed to create oxygen concentrations between 60%-80% with oxygen flow rates between 1lite/min to 2litres/min. it is important for oxygen administrated through nasal cathe- ters to be humidified to prevent mucosal drying.

• Local anaesthetic- Lidocaine 2%
• nasal oxygen catheter (neonatal feeding tube)
• Ky jelly
• adhesive tape
• Surgical stapler or suture material
• Super glue (owner permission?)
• oxygen source with bubble humidifier
• Buster collar
• oxygen tubing (green bubble tubing)
