Central line jugular catheters can be used to measure central venous pressure, to administer large volumes of intravenous fluids, to administer total or partial parenteral nutrition, for blood sampling and for simultaneous administration of intravenous fluids and intravenous medication.

Equipment
• Clippers
• Surgical scrub; Chlorhexidine solution
• Spirit
• Sterile gloves
• Sterile drape and sterile trolley drape
• Surgical instrument trolley for equipment
• no11 surgical blade
• Large bore, short, over the needle catheter
• Guide wire and central line catheter kit
• Sterile surgical swabs
• Heparinised saline in pre drawn syringes
• Suture material
• needle holders
• tissue forceps
• Mayo scissors
• Bandaging material- sterile dressing, soft padded bandage and cohesive bandage
