R : Non. L’IRC est un syndrome hétérogène qui résulte de la perte du tissu rénal fonctionnel. Beau- coup de processus pathologiques peuvent entraîner la perte des néphrons (infectieux, à médiation immune, dégénératifs, néoplasiques, toxiques, congénitaux, métaboliques, héréditaires).
Cette perte de tissu rénal fonctionnel (indépendamment de la cause) entraîne un certain nombre de réponses de la part des néphrons fonctionnels restants (mécanismes intrinsèques) et des autres systèmes corporels (mécanismes extrinsèques) pouvant aggraver les lésions des néphrons; ces réponses sont donc contre-productives et doivent souvent être traitées, indépendamment de la cause initiatrice de l’IRC.
