P : ¿A qué se debe la turbidez del suero?
R : Se debe al aumento de la concentración de triglicéridos transportados por las lipoproteínas. Se observa opacidad cuando la concentración de triglicéridos se acerca a 600 mg/dl (6,8 mmol/l). El suero toma un aspecto de leche entera cuando esta concentración alcanza los 2500-4000 mg/dl (28,3-45,2 mmol/l).
P : ¿Cuáles son las causas de hiperlipidemia?
R : La causa más frecuente es que el animal no esté en ayunas al tomar la muestra. Si se confirma un ayuno de por lo menos 12 horas, debe considerarse la hiperlipidemia secundaria a hipotiroidismo, pancreatitis, diabetes mellitus, hiperadrenocorticismo, colestasis o síndrome nefrótico, antes de considerar finalmente la posibilidad de hiperlipidemia primaria.
