La persistencia de algunos arcos vasculares durante la embriogénesis puede ser el origen de una com- presión extrínseca del esófago cuya consecuencia es la formación de una dilatación proximal al estre- chamiento. El tipo de anomalía más descrita es la persistencia del cuarto arco aórtico derecho (Twedt, 1994). El esófago está rodeado por una brida formada por la aorta, el ligamento arterial residual (no vascularizado) y la arteria pulmonar. El diagnóstico es radiográfico (dilatación esofágica proximal loca- lizada), pero también endoscópico, y el tratamiento es quirúrgico. En los carnívoros se han descrito otras anomalías (doble arco aórtico, persistencia de arterias subclavias), pero estos defectos de confor- mación siguen siendo excepcionales en gatos. […]
