Les acides gras oméga-3 constituent une famille particulière à l’intérieur de la catégorie des acides gras polyinsaturés (AGPI). Leur précurseur est l’acidelinolénique (C18 :3, n-3). Sa structure chimique le distingue de l’acide linoléique (C18 :2, n-6), précurseur de l’autre famille majeure, les acides gras oméga-6.
L’acide linoléique est un acide gras essentiel pour le chat qui dépend d’un apport alimentaire pour couvrir ses besoins.
