Cuando un gato presenta hiperlipidemia tras un ayuno de 10 a 12 horas (Figura 5) hay que investigar la causa (Figura 6). Conviene comprobar que el gato realmente está en ayunas y asegurarse de que no ha tenido acceso a la comida antes de tomar la muestra de sangre. Una vez confirmada la hiper-lipidemia, hay que abordar todas las causas de hiperlipidemia secundaria antes de considerar la hiper-lipidemia primaria.
Turbidez del suero
La evaluación visual del grado de turbidez del suero puede proporcionar una estimación de la concentración sérica de triglicéridos:
- Suero normal y limpio: concentración de triglicéridos <200 mg/dl (2,3 mmol/l)
- Suero turbio: concentración de triglicéridos de aproximadamente 300 mg/dl (3,4 mmol/l)
- Suero opaco: concentración de triglicéridos próxima a 600 mg/l (6,8 mmol /l)
- Suero con aspecto de leche desnatada: concentración de triglicéridos cercano a 1000 mg/l (11,3 mmol/l).
- Suero con aspecto de leche entera: concentración de triglicéridos que puede alcanzar de 2500 (28,2 mmol/l) a 4000 mg/dl (45,2 mmol/l). […]
