Quantifier l’obésité chez le chat
L’obésité correspond à une accumulation excessive de masse grasse corporelle. Il semble néanmoins nécessaire de définir ce qu'est la composition corporelle. La distinction principale est à faire entre :
- la masse grasse (MG) ou le tissu adipeux
- la masse maigre (MM) (Pace et Rathbun, 1945). Les constituants majeurs de la MM sont supposés être présents à taux fixes. Ils se composent de l’eau intracellulaire (EIC), de l’eau extracellulai- re (EEC), de minéraux et des protéines. La MM contient la masse cellulaire corporelle (MCC) qui est la partie métaboli- quement active du corps, responsable de la dépense énergétique au repos. La MCC inclut les tissus maigres (musculaires) sus- ceptibles d’être altérés par la malnutrition ou la maladie assez rapidement.
