Gli uroliti da struvite indotti da un’infezione richiedono una terapia basata sull’associazione di appropriati agenti antimicrobici e dieta calcololitica. Gli uroliti di struvite sterile non necessitano di antibiotici e possono essere dissolti utilizzando soltanto la dieta calcololitica oppure impiegando gli acidificanti urinari (Osborne et al, 1999d; Rinkardt & Houston, 2004) (Figura 17).

La terapia antibiotica deve essere basata sui risultati degli esami colturali e degli antibio- grammi effettuati sui campioni di urina prelevati mediante cistocentesi.
