Non ci si deve attendere che la terapia faccia necessariamente regredire o eli- mini le lesioni renali responsabili dell’insufficienza renale cronica; tuttavia, quando quest’ultima progredisce a causa di una malattia in evoluzione (pielo- nefrite, ostruzione urinaria cronica, nefrolitiasi, linfoma renale, alcune malat- tie immunomediate), la rapida identificazione e l’appropriato trattamento del disordine possono arrestare o rallentare l’avanzare della nefropatia.
