No se espera que el tratamiento haga remitir o desaparecer las lesiones renales responsables de la insu- ficiencia renal crónica. No obstante, cuando la IRC progresa a causa de una enfermedad de evolución (pielonefritis, obstrucción urinaria crónica, litiasis renal, linfoma renal y ciertas enfermedades inmu- nitarias), una identificación rápida y un tratamiento apropiado de la patología pueden detener o ralen- tizar la progresión de la enfermedad renal.
