La diagnosi di insufficienza del pancreas esocrino (EPI) viene formulata sulla base di riscontri anamne- stici e clinici compatibili (Tabella 1) ed escludendo le cause infettive, parassitarie, metaboliche ed ana- tomiche della diarrea del tenue e della perdita di peso. La diagnosi viene confermata dimostrando la presenza di livelli sierici di immunoreattività tripsino-simile (TLI, trypsin-like immunoreactivity) inferiori a quelli normali, come recentemente descritto in una rassegna di Westermarck & Wiberg (2003).
