Le syndrome d’insuffisance pancréa- tique exocrine (IPE) résulte d’une diminution de la digestion des nutri- ments dans la lumière intestinale, mais aussi de l’alcalinisation insuffi- sante du chyme, d’une altération des enzymes de la bordure en brosse et de la multiplication anarchique des bactéries. L’ensemble entraîne une activité anormale des enzymes de la muqueuse intestinale ainsi qu’une réduction du transport des sucres, acides aminés, acides gras et vita- mines (particulièrement la vitamine B12) de la lumière intestinale dans les entérocytes.
Le traitement de l’IPE consiste à ajouter aux repas des suppléments d’enzymes pancréatiques et à nour- rir ces animaux avec un régime hau- tement digestible.
