• Idéalement, un chien doit garder un poids stable pendant une période d’hospitalisation (voire prendre du poids si nécessaire). Une pesée quotidienne est impérative. L’alimentation assistée s’impose pour une période de jeûne (réelle ou prévue) supérieu- re ou égale à 3 jours.

• La voie entérale est de loin la meilleure solution pour l’alimentation assistée: elle évite l’atrophie des villosités intestinales et permet une récupération plus rapide. Lorsque l’alimentation entérale est impossible, la durée de mise au repos de l’intestin doit être réduite au minimum.

• Le besoin énergétique d’un chien hospitalisé peut être comparé à celui d’un chien au repos. Sa valeur est estimée au minimum à : 70 kcal/kg (Poids Corporel)0,75. Il faut cependant tenir compte des variations individuelles pouvant faire augmenter ce besoin de 30 %. […]
