El síndrome de insuficiencia pancreá- tica exocrina (IPE) es la consecuencia de la disminución de la digestión de los nutrientes en la luz intestinal, pero también de la alcalinización insuficiente del quimo, de la altera- ción de las enzimas del borde de la mucosa en cepillo y de la multiplica- ción bacteriana. Todo el conjunto implica una actividad anormal de las enzimas de la mucosa intestinal, así como una disminución del transpor- te de los carbohidratos, aminoácidos, ácidos grasos y vitaminas (especial- mente, la vitamina B12) desde la luz intestinal hasta los enterocitos.
