F : Wenn mein Hund sich weigert, ein neues Futtermittel zu fressen, kann ich dann etwas Fischöl dazu geben?
A : Fischöl kann üblichem Hundefutter aus dem Supermarkt zugesetzt werden, wichtig ist aber, zu wis- sen, welche Menge an Omega-3-Fettsäuren bereits im Futter enthalten ist. Ein typischer Beagle, der ein typisches Supermarktfutter frisst, wird etwa 6 Gramm Omega-6-Fettsäuren pro Tag aufnehmen und nur 100 mg Omega-3-Fettsäuren. Um also ein Verhältnis von 1:1 zu erreichen, benötigt man etwa 6 Gramm Omega-3-Fettsäuren aus Fischöl. Berücksichtigt man, dass nur 30 % des Fischöls aus Omega-3-Fettsäuren bestehen, muss die Fischölmenge auf 18 Gramm verdreifacht werden, also etwas mehr als einen Teelöffel täglich.

F : Mein Hund mag kein Fischöl. Kann ich ihm eine andere Omega-3- Fettsäurequelle geben?
A : Leinöl ist reich an Linolensäure, einem Vorläufer von EPA/DHA. Die klinische Wirksamkeit in Bezug auf Tumorerkrankungen ist allerdings noch nicht erwiesen. Weitere Alternativen sind Fischölextrakte oder Fischöl mit Zitronenaroma. […]
