Die wichtigsten Dickdarmerkrankungen sind in Tabelle 26 zusammengefasst. Unerwünschte Reaktio- nen auf Futtermittel und chronisch-entzündliche Darmerkrankungen können auch den Dickdarm betref- fen und äußern sich klinisch als Hämatochezie, Tenesmus oder Schleimbeimengungen im Kot. Die Pathogenese und die Behandlung dieser Erkrankungen sind analog zu den oben diskutierten. Gelegent- lich wird ein entzündungshemmendes Medikament, Sulfasalazin, eingesetzt. Eine Modifikation des Faser- gehalts der Nahrung kann vorteilhaft sein (siehe unten). Andere häufiger auftretende Enteropathien des Dickdarms sind die idiopathische Kolitis, die Stress-assoziierte Kolitis (Colon irritabile-Syndrom), die auf Fasern ansprechende Kolitis und die Clostridium perfringens-assoziierte Kolitis.
